For the holidays this year we have good news and bad news. Hey, it wouldn’t be 2020 if there wasn’t some bizarre twist to even what’s traditionally the happiest time of the year, right? The bad news is that we’ve all got a few (maybe more) months of staying mostly at home ahead of us. The good news is, these circumstances take a lot of the guesswork out of what to get friends and family this holiday season.
There have never been more smart home products on the market than today. And seeing that we’ll all be spending more time at home than we normally would, there’s never been a better time to appreciate and get to know how to work these new gadgets.
So, to properly ring in the holidays (and ring out 2020), we’ve put together a list of must-have smart home gifts that fit any budget. And (depending on the size of your feet), these can fit in almost any stocking too!
Sensibo: The Smarter Smart Thermostat
Smart thermostats are great if you have a central heating and cooling system. But that’s not the case for a lot of apartment dwellers. Enter Sensibo, the smart thermostat for the person who has a window air conditioner, portable room heater or any climate control device that has a remote control. Never walk into a hot apartment again on a summer day. Just set your Sensibo on your IOS or Android app to cool your home before you get home. Also works great with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit Siri Shortcuts.
Wyze Cam v3: An Elf on the Shelf 12 Month a Year
Between housecleaners, work people, dog walkers and babysitters, a lot of people have access to our homes. While nobody wants to turn their home into something out of a George Orwell novel, it’s not a bad idea to be able to keep an eye on things from time to time. Wyze’s new home security cam can be installed inside or outside of your home. It’s water and dustproof, works great in low light, has a motion sensor that can send you alerts on your smart phone, and is super easy to install. Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa compatible.
Wyze Smart Home Starter Pack: For Smart Home Newbies
Give your loved one the gift of smart home security with this flexible smart home starter pack that has everything but a smart kitchen sink. This kit includes a home security camera, micro SD card, three smart light bulbs, two smart plugs, and a set of contact and motion sensors that work together seamlessly. Works with the Wyze smartphone app and is also Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa compatible.
Apple HomePod Mini: White Box Quality at an Affordable Price
When Apple’s full-size HomePod came on the market a few years ago, it was lauded for its superior sound but jeered for it’s limited HomeKit functionality and wallet-busting price tag. Now, at an affordable $99, you can delight the Apple lover on your list with unparalleled sound hand-off music and podcast capability, enhanced AppleTV experience and full compatibility with HomeKit devices.
SmartDry: Add Some IQ Points to the Laundry
Save money and time with this game changing device. Wireless and easy to set up, SmartDry lets you know when your clothes are dry or the heat in your dryer may be at a level where it’s destroying your clothes. Plus, you can check on the status of your clothes from anywhere on your smartphone (IOS and Android) or with Alexa. Works with any electric or gas clothes dryer.
STITCH Smart Power Strip: The Most Versatile Gadget They’ll Ever Own
At first glance, a power strip may be just about the crappiest holiday gift ever. But hold on. This is no ordinary power strip. With the STITCH power strip, you can turn just about any device into a smart device. And with four outlets and two USB ports, this little item is like a smart plug on steroids. It’s unbelievably easy to set up via your local network and can be controlled via your Android or IOS smartphone and is supported by Google Home and Amazon Alexa assistants.
PK & Altman sent two men – they were able to troubleshoot the problem and completed the work in just under an hour.
Came on time, inspected, knew what the problem was, fixed it in less time than estimated and only charged me for the time they were there.
My experience with PK and Altman Electric was excellent. From my initial contact with Elizabeth in the main office to the service that was provided by Raphael and Omar, the staff was professional, polite, and punctual. I called on a Tuesday, and Elizabeth scheduled me in for Wednesday! And Raphael and Omar arrived an hour early. Before starting, Raphael reviewed a TO DO LIST with me. A ceiling fan and two outlets, including a GFI and light fixture, were either replaced or serviced. Pricing is competitive. Very pleased and would highly recommend.
Great service, quickly done and on time. Will definitely use them again and recommend their high quality workmanship.
Very quick response. Fair pricing. Great quality work. Simply put, I love you folks!
I had a good experience with this company. They installed two bathroom vanity lights. They came on time, completed the job efficiently, and cleaned up afterward. And, their office staff helpful completing a contract required by my building. I’ll use them again.
The service they provided was excellent. They quickly responded to my initial call. It was easy to communicate with their office via email, this included answering any questions, setting up the service call. They also provided all the necessary insurance and permits.
I called them around 10:30 am. They had two guys out to the apartment within 3 hours. They fixed the short (burned-out breaker) and installed the closet light fixture. Service was prompt, courteous, and professional. Price was fair. Would definitely use again.
The team arrived on time and performed the installation professionally and on time.
Great service. Timely. Friendly. Quick.
They were great. They were quick, the pricing was fair. I would recommend them again. It was $300 or less. It literally took them an hour and a half, and they didn’t have to go buy the part and come back. It was really nice that they were able to come in and fix it on the spot and now it’s fixed completely. They were excellent. I’m in real estate and there is no category where I wouldn’t give them an “A”. I’ve had plenty of bad electricians.
Two guys showed up on time. They were friendly and assessed the situation quickly. Fairly basic job for them so they had the parts necessary and had done it all within an hour. Paid and clear itemized invoice same day. It’s nice when it’s apparent that a firm genuinely appreciates your business.
They were able to send someone within an hour of correspondence. The electricians were great! It wasn’t the most straightforward installation, but they were able to make it happen in a reasonable amount of time. A new box was needed to replace our existing box before the chandelier could be installed and they were able to do it in no time! Very pleased and would highly recommend.
